My first day of shooting for my film ‘Jindra’

Image
The story behind my role in Jindra is also quite interesting. As I mentioned earlier my director’s son introduced me to the Punjabi film industry. I was chosen by my director for another film meant for the big screen and I had to play a side role in that film. It was then that COVID struck and the movie halls were closed. So my first film got shelved before we even started discussing the shooting. Then the director thought of making a film solely for the OTT audience and that is how Jindra was created. In this film I was supposed to play the male lead role and I would be introduced to the Punjabi film audience as Kirandeep Rayat Punjabi actor. Although I had created many tiktok videos, I had never seen or done a proper film shoot earlier. So when I went to the shooting spot on the day of my first shoot, I was quite intrigued by the ambience there. There was a lot of scurrying around and the unit was busy setting up the lights and other items meant for the shoot. This is when my ma...

Kirandeep Rayat Punjabi Actor

The Punjabi film industry has recently developed into an entity of its own. In earlier times, people did not watch Punjabi movies much because they preferred Bollywood creations. However, the Punjabi film producers have started adding more to their budgets and the directors are also trying to make films that become popular overnight. Of course there are the big budget films also, but the most interesting are the small budget Punjabi movies meant for OTT. The popularity of these movie channels has enabled the Punjabi film makers to make small but effective movies. My first film Jindra cannot exactly be called a low budget film, but it has had a major impact on the audience. It has become a hit and people who saw me – Kirandeep Rayat in that movie have appreciated my acting and treatment of the character. The movie will always remain my favourite no matter how many films I act in. This is because the role is a memorable one and the subject of the movie is such that it touches the he...

The best is yet to come

I belong to a Sikh Punjabi family and have a family business which is running quite well with the grace of God. I had everything that a person can ask for in a lifestyle. The business was running well and now I even started making TikTok videos which satisfied my urge for acting. However, I dreamt of the big screen secretly and nurtured a wish to become a name in the punjabi film industry someday. It happened a little late in life, but it took pollywoodin a big stride. My role asJassa in the film Jindra was that of a village lad and in order to portray the nuances of such a villager I had to work hard to study the culture of that part of Punjab. While preparing for this role, I had to visit Punjab a couple of times. And during the shooting of the film I lived in Punjab for lengthy periods of time. One thing I wish to share here is that people who know me as Kirandeep Rayat , know me as a foodie. I love to taste different cuisines and try out different dishes. I have eaten in some...

The transformation from a city dweller to a village lad

Image
My roles in my first two movies – Jindra and Saunhmitti di – portrayed me as a villager and I needed to undertake a lot of hard work in order to imbibe the persona of the villager. This is because I was born and raised in Delhi and did not have very strong ties with my village in Punjab. My roots go back to the village Padora in district Hoshiarpur in Punjab and we still had some relatives living there. There was a little farming being done also although not much. Then thought of dressing up for a village visit never occurred to me and I thought of wearing my dark green turban which represented the green of the fields of Punjab. As KirandeepRayat I visited Punjab many times, but this time was different because it was a learning journey. This is why from among my hundred or so turbans I chose all the green ones for my visit. It may seem odd to people that I chose turban according to the place that I was visiting. But I had always been very fond of turbans and hence had a large collec...

My Experience With The Punjabi Film Industry

Image
Kirandeep Rayat Panjabi Actor – these words still seem to resonate in my mind which tries to wrap itself around the fact that I am a Panjabi film actor now. With one movie released and two being shot I really have become an actor in the Panjabi film industry. The thing that makes me feel pride is the fact that I started from being a tik tok star. Unknown to me a young man followed my tik tok videos quite enthusiastically. In fact as a tik tok star I had quite a fan following. The only difference with this young man was that he was the son of a Punjabi film director Bhupinder Singh Bhambrah. As destiny would have it, this young man was quite impressed with my talent and he met me in a social get together. He immediately recognized me as Kirandeep Rayat and introduced himself. During our conversation he asked me if I would like to work in Panjabi films. The journey begins I knew nothing about big screen acting and told him so, but I did have interest in becoming a big screen actor. So ...
